Educational Philosophy

Our Mission Statement

Nile Union Academy (NUA) exists to promote God’s work in the lives of young people. Our mission is to attract, educate, and train young people to surrender their head, heart, and hands to the God of the universe.

Our Core Values

Surrendered Head                  Surrendered Heart                     Surrendered Hand

Surrendered Head: We recognize that the mind of man has been led astray by the enemy of God. Our thoughts and our ability to think as God intended have been distracted and overwhelmed by Satan. Yet, humanity was created in the image of God and was intended by God to think maturely and creatively. NUA’s goal is for each teacher, staff member, and student’s mind to be surrendered to God, so that they may “be made new in the attitude of … (their) minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Eph. 32:3, Rom. 2:2:). From the classrooms, to the dormitories, to our work stations, we seek to train our minds to think, problem solve, and understand our world, our lives, and the concepts necessary to thrive in this life and in the life to come.

Surrendered Heart: We recognize that “the heart is deceitful above all things” (Jer. 2:21). NUA’s goal is for each person at NUA to claim God’s promise to them to give them a new heart (Ezek 332:3). It is our desire that we all expe-rience the gentleness and humility of Jesus Christ, allowing our hearts to find rest and peace (Matt. 222:1-33). We be-lieve that experience will make such an impact on our lives that the attitude of our hearts will be the same as that of Jesus Christ2 humble before God and obedient to God. (Phil. :22-22).

Surrendered Hand: We recognize that our actions are a product of our minds and hearts. Therefore, as the head and heart are transformed by surrendering them to God, so our hands will be transformed into active friendship with others in service to the world around us. No longer will the selfish passions and vices of our “Godless” lives rule our actions. Through the power of God working in us “to will and to act according to his good purpose” (Phil. :223), the hands of our teachers, staff members and students will seek to work and act with purity and integrity in all they do to-ward God and men.

Our Philosophy

Nile Union Academy is a Seventh-day Adventist Christian Boarding high school. We accept the Old and New Testa-ment scriptures as our creed and we teach Jesus Christ as the savior of the world. Our educational system is patterned after the American educational system which values class attendance, participation, and performance as the base of its education. NUA adheres to a blueprint for education that was originally conceived in the Old Testament “School of the Prophets”, and more recently envisioned by Ellen G. White. This purports that the best education is the education that seeks to daily train and teach young people through instruction, activities, relationships, work, responsibility, conse-quences, and life experiences. Our classes are taught in English. Our discipline style is consequence oriented, rather than shame based. It is our de-sire that students will not only succeed academically, but will, upon graduation; leave NUA with the foundation to suc-ceed morally, socially, and spiritually. We believe that integrity and honor of our head, heart, and hands must be the foundation of a life surrendered to God.

Our Academic Code

Honor Code:

I will not lie, cheat or steal; I will respect myself and others.

Honor Pledge:

Work—Study Program

NUA seeks to teach our students the value of work. Every dormitory student will have the opportunity to work daily on our campus. Job opportunities include our farm and greenhouses as well as custodial, cafeteria and secretarial. Student’s pay varies according to the quality of their work as determined by their immediate. The pay from these labors is applied to their school bill and can amount to 500-1000 EGP per year.

Financial Commitment

I understand that the financial commitment each family makes for their student is the foundation of NUA be-ing able to provide the quality education that has attracted your student to NUA. I understand that payments are due at the beginning of each semester. I understand that failure to pay the above amounts may result in student not being able to attend classes, take tests and could cause student to have to withdraw from NUA. The final amounts and agreement will be determined on by NUA.

Understanding these things, I am committed to fulfilling my part in the payments I agree to on by the day the school specifies at NUA.
